Simply stated, I believe we are smarter, but not wiser. Just because one has facts, or information, or even further, access to information, it only gets you partially down the road.
This is the cousin to iq / eq / ei questions. Also related to the curiosity questions, and likely several other psychological questions.

Once you know stuff, you have to do stuff – now you have a new question – Risk / Reward Tolerance.
Then you need desire, perseverance and grit.

Being someone who talks out both sides of his mouth regularly, I’ll give both sides to the discussion. In the 40 years of my adult hood, the most powerful tool for information access was created, the internet. It is also when labor work was being further dismissed and going to college became standard. It is also the time when feelings and emotions were accepted, promoted and discussed forthrightly. All this created incredible efficiencies, higher productivity and enormous wealth.

It is also when americans began the march away from labor, of not doings things for oneself and paying others to do it for them, because it was easier, more efficient and they were getting lazy. It is when you could began to do anything from anywhere, anytime with less and less personal interaction. It is when the word service began to get lost, the “greater good” meaning began to suffer, people became more spiritual and less religious. ROI went up everywhere as did anxiety. Good times.

We are definitely smarter, more efficient, and have more access to information; however I’m not quite sure that we are more intelligent or wise.

One of the last 2 pieces to the puzzle is the human nature part, which is baked into genes over the millennia, we tend to forget the bad parts, take only what we need at the moment and for some reason repeat some of the stupid again and again.

Last piece is mother nature, she always has the final say.
