DJT theory:
It is like the parent who says the trip will be great, just like “back when” … we’ll do this, we’ll do that, we’ll stop here and there, it will be wonderful. When we get to our destination we’ll be on top again.
It feels good, doesn’t it ?
I understand why they like his brashness.
They love his words, even if they make little sense in the short term, there are some crumbs. It will likely make almost no sense out over the long term. At the end of every project there is always a bill to be paid. Always.
It makes the deplorables, the forgotten ones, the tough guys, bullies, the americanists, some libertarians, some old school socialists, a few nationalists, some big government and some small government people feel good about themselves. It gives them all some cake.
The Key: His key is he give them something to rally on, to make them feel good about their position on the cog, in the machine. That “key” works for both sides too, it gives both sides some cake to chew on or fight about. A little chaos is good for everyone.
It makes big business happy until it doesn’t. They wanted tax cuts, but not deficits, (virtually impossible). All tariffs have a price, all will pay for it.
Small business believes because they are busier they are doing better, they will not know until dust settles and time / tax code has its way.
I suspect history won’t be that kind. However time does soften the edges. But there are some who still think Nixon wasn’t that bad, that Reagan was brilliant, that Clinton deserves forgiveness, that Bush wasn’t that slow, that Obama could create hope.
