Barn Life –  It came to him in Eastham.  Firmed up in Cedar Key. Built in Sturbridge

It was the summer of 2015, they had been on Cape Cod for many vacations, but last summer and this summer they were full time residents.  They were seriously considering a permanent move, just some details to workout.  As with all details and experiences, when “time” gets sprinkled on them, clarity rises. No harm, no foul, but no Cape Cod either.

The new shed was delivered to Kathy and Bills, nothing huge, just practical.   I have built many, many things, this was an afternoon project.  Really the size of a small bedroom.  On the Cape, the old houses all had bunk sheds, a place for children and then grand children to sleep with cousins or friends. Some had water, some had heat, they were close by for kitchen raids etc.  Their shed was for boat stuff, but I saw something else.

He was at Cedar Key FL visiting a historical site when the shed / barn theory came to life again.  It was a hunting / fishing cabin that had 3 wings, a kitchen wing, sleeping wing and trophy wing.

As the Cape Cod Theory died, a Florida theory grew, as the Florida theory began to show its cracks, a new Sturbridge Theory began to grow.

Simplicity was the secret.  Function beat out form, less was truly more.

In Sturbridge there was a barn, a good sized barn, 3 bays.   What if it could be transformed just enough, to create the Eastham / Cedar Key / Sturbridge Lodge.

Some people thought he had lost it, but really, he found it.
